太祖神社

●所在地　糟屋郡篠栗町若杉
●ご祭神　伊弉諾尊（いざなぎのみこと）など。

大鳥居

　若杉山登山口に大きな鳥居が建っている。
　若杉山は夜景スポットで、なおかつ初日の出スポットでもあるので、登山された方、車で上ったことがある方も多いかもしれない。

　ボクは高校時代に、篠栗町に引っ越してきたが、生来の都会っ子だったし、小中学校の知り合いもいないので、今ひとつ篠栗町になじめずに去ってしまった。
　今あらためて篠栗町を見渡すと、意外に都心から近いし、何でもそろっていてけっこう便利。
　自然もたっぷり残っていて、水もウマいし、住むのにはいい場所だなぁ、と思う。

　若杉山には、日本神話のヒロインである神功皇后の伝説も残っている。
　神功皇后が三韓征伐の際に、身重の体ながら征伐成就を祈願して若杉山山頂にある太祖宮に登山・参拝した。

　その時、お守りに、山の杉を手折って鎧にさし、征伐に出発。見事成就した後は、その杉の枝を香椎宮の一画に植えたところ、現在の「綾杉」になった。
　山の名前の由来は、杉を分けた、という分杉山が若杉山に変じた。

　神功皇后の時代には太祖宮があった、ということは、このお宮がかなり古くからあったこと、そう信じられてきたことを示している。

　若杉山は神山として守られていて、屋久島に負けないほどの杉の巨木がたくさん生えていた。今も遊歩道を歩けば、杉の巨木に出会える。山上の杉は、今も昔も太祖神社のご神木であったが、豊臣秀吉の朝鮮出兵のときにずいぶんと伐採されたそうだ。
　きっと、神功皇后にあやかったんだと思うが、そうは問屋がおろさなかったわけだ。

　太祖神社は、若杉山をご神体とするお宮で、今も山頂に上の宮がおわす。
　かつては、黒田家の尊崇を受けていたので、ご神域、ご神領はむちゃくちゃ広大だったはず。その名残が、若杉登山口の大鳥居なのだ。
